JOHN'S UNOPEND 10 second LS1 VT |
14.05.2008 |
Congratulations to John Elfes on the 10.45 @ 129mph pass.
For those that don't know him, he is Vick's son and a Mechanic & tuner at C&V Performance.
John's VT has been a project car for the last few months, and up until recently; lay idle at the shop with no running gear but with a full cage.
The car is part of a big project, that will see it run record breaking numbers
Once the new modified engine combination come together and a set of street slicks we will keep you posted !
It was ready to be ANDRA tech inspected, so the boys decided to get the car back on the road and installed an old stock LS1 engine and box that was sitting around the workshop that was transplanted out of a customers car a while back.
Last week the car was passed by ANDRA so they decided to put John in the hot seat and get him to have a feel of the car down the track.
In order to take full advantage of the new license, they made sure that the car would run a decent number by installing a generous size NOS kit to complement the upgraded fuel system, as well as a converter and diff gears.
So with his brand new race suit, harness and 28 X 9 slicks and the car fully legal, he put on a show on Wednesday night at Sydney Dragway
His first run produced a 10.709@127.58
It was then backed up with his second run being the quickest of the night with a 10.706@127.74
Finally on his third and last run, he once again kept it consistent with a 10.711@126.76
Johnny was ecstatic with his 10 second passes in his new ANDRA approved car.
Also goes to show how amazingly strong these stock LS1 engines can be, when set up correctly.
This car is part of the on going R&D that the shop has been involved in, and is one of a few cars out there at the moment that have proven themselves in completely unopened form.
Well done John for his first taste of great things to come . . .
The roll cage sits nice and tight in the car and is well hidden from the outside

Update 25 Oct 2008
John has added another fogger nozzle to his VT totaling 3 all up now and will try his luck at the track soon.
The idea with this setup is to spread the total power added over a wider span and have each nozzle come on at a critical moment over the 400 Meters.
The total power output has also been raised in the process.
First 2 fogger nozzles
The 3rd nozzle added
Update 12 Nov 2008
Johnny went back to the track to try out the 3rd stage nitrous with a great result.
He ran 10.4@129 and backed it up with a second pass.
